After dropping the first game of the year to South Pittsburg in extra innings Monday, CCS was looking to bounce back with their first home game of the year against Hillcrest High School from Alabama as part of the Scenic City Classic. On a beautiful afternoon for baseball CCS used effective pitching and timely hitting to defeat the Patriots, the 2016 6A state champs in Alabama, 9-3.
Senior Nathanael Kapp took the mound for the Chargers and picked up the win, throwing 4 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs. Junior Amos Davenport came in and pitched two solid innings of relief in his first appearance on the year, allowing one run, no hits and striking out two. Freshman Cole Headrick pitched a perfect 7th inning, striking out two.
Offensively, the Chargers were led by John Rhodes who went 3-3 with a home run, triple, double, and 3 RBI. Sophomore Colt Sinor hit his first homerun of the year in a key four run 5th inning and also doubled home two runs in the bottom of the first. Sinor finished the day 2-4 with 4 RBI. Austin Vincent also was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
CCS will be back in action Friday afternoon at 4PM against Franklin County as part of the Scenic City Classic.
